Thought Provoking Discussion on the Future of Workplaces

UMS was a proud sponsor of the 2021 Local Government Professional Annual Conference, which was held virtually for the first time to ensure it was a COVID-safe event.

Passionate about leading best practice in occupational health and safety, we sponsored The Future of Workplaces – Challenges and Opportunities workshop presented by Georgie Chapman, a partner at HR Legal, a Workplace Relations and Safety Lawyer.

Georgie discussed the enormous pressure on workplaces within the last year, and provided insightful lessons on the challenges, legal risks and opportunities arising from the COVID crisis including flexible working arrangements, performance management and managing mental health.

“Working in buildings maintenance, it is critical for UMS to reflect on the challenges faced during COVID, what lessons have been learned and what opportunities we can harness to make every workplace, safer, every day,” said Demara Jackson, CEO, UMS.

James Burris, Buildings Account Manager, and David Fraser, Grounds and Open Space Contract Manager, represented UMS at the Conference, both noting the abundance of knowledge and learnings from workshops and panel sessions, and other activities offered over the 3-day event.

COVID placed enormous pressure on workplaces – with many staff having to work remotely, often at short notice, and other worksites heavily restricted due to COVID-safe measures.

During COVID, UMS’ dedicated team of experienced experts were at the cold-face tailoring solutions to ensure every workplace and community space upheld all OHS and COVID-19 specific restrictions.
