UMS is proud to announce the official opening of its 1000 square metre Henderson depot! The new depot and staff it accommodates allows UMS to offer an expanded range of facility maintenance services.
UMS celebrated its opening with 130 staff and guests. Including key people from Auckland Council and members of the Henderson-Massey, Waitakere Ranges and Rodney Local Boards.
Visitors were welcomed with a mihi by UMS’ Sam Goodwin and Richard Heteraka. Who responded on behalf of the manuhiri. They were joined in by the angelic singing of, horticultural apprentice, Melody Davis who performed the karanga.
Richard explained to the guests that they were being welcomed into the whare. This is where the guests and hosts share their collective values and faith. Richard shared a very powerful message of UMS’ family culture. As he told the story of how he lost a loved one very early on whilst working with UMS. He was overcome by the support and kindness from the team and he explained how UMS’ culture was embraced.
Managing Director Patrick Flannigan spoke of how moved he was by the mihi. He recounted the journey over the last five months from when UMS was awarded the contract to where we have come now. Patrick paid tribute to the staff’s hard work. He encouraged them by saying “success to me will be when, in ten years’ time, I see the apprentices here today working as UMS’ leaders”.
UMS’ Executive Chairman, Campbell Walker, finished by speaking about how we are a family orientated company. And how safety is key, as the best gift you can give your family is you arriving home safely each night. Campbell told the guests that our Australian staff were very jealous, given that we have 17 depots nationally and have never had a ribbon cutting ceremony before today!
