Modular Awning for Hobson’s Bay City
Council Carpark
The production of this awning from start to finish was very much a team effort between
UMS, Karagata and Hobson’s Bay City Council.
Our brief was to devise an awning that would protect cars from sap, falling branches
and nightly “roosting” birds that would defecate on cars parked under the gum trees.
It had to be free standing, not compromise the security of the compound, modular
in format for cleaning and replacement or addition while being strong enough to
handle wind and storm loads.
With the initial design from the team at Karagata and fine tuning from Ray Brown
of Hobson’s Bay City Council, design approval was granted. UMS submitted a successful
quotation and the works undertaken. The whole project was completed safely, on time
and in budget. Hobson’s Bay City Council was extremely pleased with the finished
result and commented on how professionally this project was undertaken by all parties.
For a small capital outlay Hobson’s Bay City Council will have substantial savings
on repairs and cleaning costs to their fleet of vehicles.
A fantastic result was achieved all round and this is a great example of partnering
working at its best. Well done to Ric Te Boekhorst, UMS Contract Manager for all
his efforts. Thanks also to Ray Brown from Hobson’s Bay City Council for his guidance
and engineering skills and a particular acknowledgment must go to Ray Wong Hee and
Martin Coffey and the team from Karagata.
